"Weekend for the Wirtas"

Today, we were getting back into the groove after having most of two days off. Our weekend is Wednesday and Thursday.  Sonny left Tuesday afternoon for Port Orchard with the truck to pick up our kayaks, do laundry, water the trees and get groceries. I puttered around our campsite, did litter patrol on the beach and did a walk about through the campground.  It was a quiet night.  Wednesday, I did the morning walk around posting the reserved signs and then spent 4 hours working on the Finn Convention details.  Sonny returned with news of the latest forest fire in the ridges near Highway 97.  The smoke plumes in the East are impressive in the evening with the sun reflecting pink against them. Thursday, we took time to post the reserve signs and then headed out for Leavenworth.  Sonny played golf and I wandered around Cashmere’s downtown checking out the antique stores.  On the way back, we stopped in Plain to visit our friends, Jim and Janice who recently sold their home in Issaquah.  They moved their belongings into their giant garage which also has living space.  They plan to winter in Yuma.  We could see more smoke in the distance from their yard.  It was half price pizza night at the Headwaters Tavern so we drove over, planning to order take out so we could watch the first Seahawks pre-season game in comfy chairs.  Two hours later, we finally got our pizza.  It was a busy place and our order got buried.  The waitress kindly comped our order and we were on our way.  The Seahawks lost.  The game was in Denver and the 12th man wasn’t in the house to spur the players on.

We were up at 5:30 AM since Friday is typically a busy day with the fishermen and we help with parking.  However, the wind has kept many away so we went back to bed.  The last 3 days, the wind has been 15-20 mph on the beach and the temps have been in the 90s.  The boat rentals have been shut down but the kids are still playing in the water in spite of the white caps.  Calmer days are promised for the weekend so maybe we will get our own kayaks into the water.

The Medics were in the park this morning.  A fisherman went to jump from his boat to the dock when the wind pushed his boat away.  He landed on the dock breaking his leg.  I can sympathize.

We had 49 incoming reservations so it took about 5 hours to clean campsites.  All 100 sites are booked for the night.  One of Sonny’s Boeing co workers arrived for a weekend with his family, saw our name on the host site and hunted out Sonny to check in.  We made our evening rounds making sure the fire rings were legal and answering questions.  The super moon is on its way for Sunday and shining bright even tonight.

The sunsets are amazing.

The helicopters are flying over several times a day. since the
air field is nearby.  We learned that the buckets carry
3000-4000 pounds of water.

Every night, it's a pretty picture

I put out some cracked corn.  The squirrels will run up our legs when we
are sitting outside looking for peanuts.

probably should have
rearranged him. (I didn't
pose him!)
