Chelan County Fair Senior Citizens Day

On Thursday, Senior Citizens get into the fair for free so we took advantage of the opportunity.  The weather was perfect:  comfortable temps, clear blue sky and no wind.  Our friend from Plain joined us for breakfast at Aujour Bakery in Cashmere.  We managed to pass several hours at the fair before heading back to Plain around 5:30 PM in time to watch the Seahawks game.  (Seahawks won!) I enjoyed looking at the hand craft exhibits, (sewing, quilts, knitting, weaving, photography)  and the children's projects.  We met a couple from Wenatchee who travel with their 5th wheel. Recently, they had been all the way across the US to Nova Scotia, down the East coast to see the Fall foliage and wintered in a fish camp in Florida before driving back to WA. Sonny and Jim spent time with the alpaca lady and her two pets learning about alpacas.  If they would eat blackberries, we might consider them.

Large quilt display.  This one was made for a 19 year old.  The flowers
are made from clothing she's had.  You can hardly see but there are things stitched
into the black background.  One is a flute and around the edges, there are
musical notes to tunes, one of which is "Do Re Me" from The
Sound of Music.

Exotic animals on the stage.  This one was very hyper.
The handler invited 10 women up on stage to get a "kiss" from
this lizard.  They had to close their eyes while the
lizard tickled them with its tongue.  Yikes!

There were several varieties of snakes.

We rarely see rams at the fair.  This one really wanted OUT.  He butt
the wooden side boards many times.

He managed to stand up on the fencing and reach the
sign above his head which was covered with yellow
butcher paper.  He tore it down and began to munch away till
someone took it away from him.  He had short but very sturdy
legs and horns that could hurt I'm sure.

In this exhibit, a woman collected a zillion metal pop tops from
soda cans.  These vests and purses are crocheted pop tops.  What
patience!

This goat was anxious to taste his ribbon.
